Look beyond the obvious, look beyond the object," these are the words of the duo behind the ‘eclectic chic' living room concept. Natascha Roes and Katrin Delorme, interior designers at Cottage Chic offer a unique interior design service at the boutique for clients looking for a modern style of interiors.

"We take into consideration the lifestyle of our clients and we like to go back with more than one idea. Our style ranges from funky chic which is more about contemporary elegance and Shabby Chic. Ninety-nine per cent of the time we end up customising everything for customers and we offer a turn-key solution, which also helps," says Natascha.

Both designers wanted to create a living room theme to inspire people to work with what they already have. "It's okay to mix old antique furniture with newer modern pieces and mix different styles. You'll find that we've combined the old with the new and we've selected accessories which have a distinctive appeal — they have to be interesting and engaging," explains Katrin.

The room style is minimalistic and the richness of the fabrics and textures offers a vibrant finish to the overall theme. The table, floor and ceiling lights by US brand Notre Monde offer the best mix of old world charm and modern-day home decor. The designers began with several neutral shades as a base for the room and then built layer after layer, by adding the Taylor Scott sofa, side tables, fireplace and large mirror — all of which are available at Cottage Chic. The silk fuchsia and green cushions from Designers' Guild picked up the accents while the floral details on the fabric are spot on with the season's botanical trend, as is the Vivienne Westwood rug.

"We made sure everything from the pattern on the walls to the texture on the accessories blended together to create a vintage and used style. One outlet that is mixing vintage-style furniture with contemporary pieces is Decoworld. Look out for the brand's gothic chandeliers, plush rugs, antique cabinets and the classical furniture pieces which take inspiration from the renaissance era."
