Hindi music album reviews
ADA ... A way of life
A. R. Rahman
The album is a fine example of music composer A.R. Rahman's versatility. Case in point is the ease with which the romantic songs and robust beat-driven tracks flow from one to the other. Ishq Ada (Rashid Ali), Gum Sum (Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik), Gulfisha (Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan and Viviane), Tu Mera Hai (Chitra, Sukhvinder and Naresh Iyer) and Hai Dard (Udit Narayan) are some of my top picks.
Pure Gold: Rafi-Lata
Mohammad Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar
Arguably the greatest playback singers in the Hindi film music industry, Mohammad Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar have sung more than 300 memorable duets in their long and distinguished musical careers. This limited edition album compiles some of the finest duets from their repertoire. Songs such as Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Sau Saal Pahle, and Tasveer Teri Dil Mein are some of the noteworthy ones.
Razia Sultan/Laila Majnu OST
Various Artistes
This twin soundtrack combo presents melodious music from the '70s and '80s, composed by two great music directors. Khayyam's Razia Sultan – with compositions such as Aye Dile Nadaan, Jalta Hai Badan and Khwab Bankar Koi Aayega – and Madan Mohan's Laila Majnu – featuring the songs Husn Hazir Hai, Barbad Mohabbat Ki and Is Reshmai Paazeb Ki – have gone on to become classics. It's worth a listen.
