The fashion world's finally fallen for the future of florals

It's been something of a slow burner as far as trends go. First seen on Givenchy's A/W11 womenswear catwalks last February, Riccardo Tisci's panther and pansy prints struck a chord with the coolest of front row fashionistas, but made only a minor appearance on the high street last winter, much to our dismay (1).

But thanks to a second, updated (and rather unusual, it has to be said) showing in a vivid menswear collection for S/S12, and Givenchy-inspired digital florals are blossoming all over the place this season.

Touching the edges of skirts, dresses, tops and trousers like floral frames and computer generated mirror images of tropical birds and blooms, springs catwalks were more than inspired by last season's Givenchy (2) giving a decidely futuristic alternative to the more traditional flora and fauna prints that dominate the spring runways. With the high street finally catching on (alongside Hollywood's hot young things), expect your wardrobe to be saying it with digitally printed flowers all summer long (3).

Footnotes

1. Givenchy muse Liv Tyler, Kanye West and ex French Vogue Editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld, were all early fans of Givenchy's dark and mysterious digital florals.

2. You can't fail to see the impact of Tisci's A/W11 collection on the S/S12 catwalk - Erdem, Preen, Balmain and Chloé all referenced the look in their newest collections.

3. The high street are all over the trend right now. Head to Oasis, River Island and Topshop for the best of the computer generated bunch.
