Ask us if we wanted a mullet a few years back, and we would have seriously questioned your sanity. But while the terrifying hairdo of the same name thankfully disappeared back into style oblivion as quicky as it reappeared, the mullet skirt is showing off some rather impressive style sticking power.
First spotted on last season's spring/summer catwalks the mullet (that's a skirt that's long at the back and short at the front) has made its mark as the freshest shape of recent seasons, and has become a firm fave with everyone from Nicki Minaj to Blake Lively. Perfect if you can't choose between a maxi and a mini, and just as hot for day as it is for night, this little hybrid is great for showing off toned pins (whilst concealing any cellulite worries), and brilliant for showcasing knockout heels (definitely not flats, OK?) that would have gone otherwise unnoticed under a maxi. Genius!
Footnotes
- Alexander McQueen, Antonio Berardi and Lanvin all kicked off the mullet skirt trend last spring, and it's staying put right the way through to next season too!
- Remember Blake Lively rocking that awesome billowing grey harnessed Lanvin number literally hours after it hit the runway? Her style star was cemented at that very moment.
- If a full on-evening gown is just too dressy for you, a mullet gown is the answer. Fun, fresh but still red carpet appropriate (as seen at Oscar De La Renta), make like Olivia P and top off with a gorge blazer for an extra dose of off-kilter mullet- hemmed magic.
