Well hello desert island dressing – fashion’s having an ‘Aloha’ moment. Tropical florals and palm tree prints are blooming all over the high street this season, thanks to the catwalk’s homage to all things Honolulu-fabulous.

From Altuzarra, Chloé and Dries Van Noten to Proenza Schouler and Stella McCartney, bold Hawaiian-inspired prints are the Waiki-key to looking hot, hot, hot this summer – and saving them for your vacaywardrobe simply isn’t an option.

Whether you opt for beach-babe cool of a weekend, with bold orchids and paradise island parrots your focus, or channel your inner Magnum PI at the office with traditional Hawaiian prints on blouses and pencil skirts, for instant happy holiday dressing, top-to-toe tropical is your one-way ticket to a gorgeous fashion getaway look. Aloha!

Style notes: How to wear tropical

 - Tropical prints are not for wallflowers - wear them bold and beautiful or not at all.

 - Digital landscapes, Hawaiian florals, palm trees and exotic birds are the key prints to look out for. Think postcard-perfect images in the most vibrant of colours.

 - Clashing tropical prints looks cool, but is tricky to get right. If you want to wear separates, stick to pieces in the same pattern, and offset with plain extras.

 - Tropical prints on a black background are the easiest to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. Pair a printed skirt or shorts with a black blazer and colourful top to trial the trend, and build on it as you get braver.

 - Be adventurous, but avoid wearing anything that resembles a lei with your tropical-inspired outfit - unless you're hoola-ing on a beach somewhere.
