Kermit

The Frog said it wasn't easy being green. We beg to differ, Kermie. An army of green goddesses have swept the red carpet this season, resplendent in an array of envy-inducing gowns and, quite simply, totally nailed the trend. Spotted on the catwalks of Roksanda Ilincic, Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler, Jonathan Saunders and Marni, to Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, Armani, Gucci and Chanel, from palest pistachio to elegant emerald, green has cemented itself as the standout shade of the season, and everyone who's anyone is wearing it. With Diane Kruger the latest Hollywood glamazon to give us major jealously issues over her spectacular mint chiffon Giambattista Valli gown at the Cannes Film Festival, followed closely by Dianna Agron in goosebump-inducing emerald green silk Carolina Herrera at the Met Gala Ball, going green is so where it's at. Kermit, you couldn't be any more on-trend if you tried.

How to wear green

  • Green looks great on all skin tones, you just have to find the shades (and there are going to be a few!) that work best for you.
  • Monotone minty shades look super-fresh and modern. Matchy-matchy works, but if you can't get your tones bang on, combine your shades for a DIY ombre look, starting with a darker shade on the bottom and getting lighter on top, or vice versa.
  • Nude and tan accessories look great with green of every shade. Fashion fact.
  • Love to colour clash? Bright green looks particularly wicked with vibrant purple or zingy yellow, but equally fab with orange, pink, blue and red. Pale green works with every other pastel tone. Stick to a two-tone mix for best results.
  • Emerald green evening gowns are a total classic. Pair with a ruby lip and emerald (or fake emerald) jewellery for effortless red carpet elegance.
