It's arguably the most glamorous event in Dubai's social calendar, so there's simply no excuse not to pull out all the stops and look earth-shatteringly fabulous for the Dubai World Cup.

As steeped in style as Royal Ascot (although with infinitely better weather), getting your outfit right for the richest horse race on the planet is imperative - and that means choosing a frock that follows the dress code whilst making flashbulbs pop for all the right reasons.

With gorgeous ladylike looks dominating this season's catwalks, perfecting your inner Middleton (or even My Fair Lady's Eliza Doolittle) has never been simpler. Think poised, polished and perfectly groomed, and you're onto a winning streak.

Style notes

  • Stick to the dress code - we're aiming for Royal Enclosure elegance here, not clubbing with the Kardashians.
  • Don't even think about mini skirts, plunging necklines, bare midriffs or unlined, transparent fabrics.
  • Ladylike knee-length pencil skirts and demure dirndls are a key catwalk trend, and perfect for race day.
  • Colour and print are huge this season - everything from tropical florals and vibrant neons to vintage lace and feminine pastels look fantastic on a gloriously sunny day at the races.
  • If in doubt, think ‘WWKMW (What Would Kate Middleton Wear?). Chances are it won't be anything lycra, sparkly or ‘novelty'.
  • Take your hat with you when shopping for your dress - and vice versa.
