I received a message from Dubai First to pay for a credit card, which I have not activated. For the past two years, approximately, I have not even used any of their services.

In 2015, I had asked for my account and my credit card with Dubai First to be cancelled, after which, they claimed to have sent me another credit card. I do not have it, nor have I activated it.

A couple of days ago, I received a message from Dubai First that I would need to pay due amount of Dh100.

I called up Dubai First and they claimed that I would have to pay Dh400 as membership fee. I told them that I do not hold any card with Dubai First nor do I have any account with them.

Furthermore, it was brought to my knowledge that they have kept my account active (without my agreement) and are now asking me to pay, and sending me regular reminders to pay for a credit card, which has neither been activated nor available to me.

I fear that Dubai First will now start sending me reminders every day and ask me to pay Dh400 plus late payment charges. There is no amount payable from my side to Dubai First.

Dubai First should close my account.

From Mr Indronil Mukherjee

Dubai

The management of Dubai First responds:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. At Dubai First, we are committed to provide the best of service to our card members and protect their interests.

Mr Mukherjee holds an active credit card account with Dubai First since January 2012 till date. The customer had requested for card cancellation during a telephonic conversation initiated by a Dubai First representative in August 2016, and was duly advised on the requirements for card closure. The Card account has been on active state since there was no further confirmation on fulfilment of the requirements from the customer.

This is to inform you that we have contacted the customer to address his issue and have resolved the complaint to his satisfaction.

Mr Mukherjee responds:

A big thank you to Gulf News for taking the effort and addressing my issue with Dubai First. The bank confirmed to me that they have withdrawn all charges and cancelled the card but this was done through a telephone conversation.
