Reader raises concern of wastage of food in her residential area in Dubai
Dubai
I want to raise awareness about wastage of food and I hope that I am able to convey this message through Gulf News. This is the second time this year that I have been witness to food wastage, which prompted me into addresing this issue.
The first time, the food was placed in two plastic bags and left behind in the sandy area. The food in the bag consisted mainly of bread. The second time, the food was discarded on to the sand itself (as seen in photograph).
I live in the building beside this sandy plot in the Muhaisnah area in Dubai. I was deeply saddened by this sight and I dont understand how people can be so uncivilised about food. If the dumped food is not cleaned by the municipality worker the next morning, it just stays in the same place creating a bad smell and invites flies and mosquitoes to it.
The most shocking bit is that the food that is thrown is actually fresh and can easily be consumed. When I see such wastage, I think of the people in the world who are less privileged and cannot afford to eat a proper meal in a day. If this food was given to them instead of throwing it away, it would have been a blessing in itself.
I hope the concerned authorities look into this issue and heavily fine people who are wasting food in this manner.
