Installation of high barbed fences along the dividers separating oncoming and outgoing traffic lanes is imperative on all multi-lane expressways, like Emirates Road and Shaikh Zayed Road.

Installing them will stop people from taking an easy shortcut for crossing to the opposite side of the road, which is very risky. Generally, there are hardly any pedestrian subways or bridges on highways and people are tempted to take a chance and brave heavy, fast-moving traffic in order to save some time and transport costs.

There have been deadly accidents in the past and in order to deter people from using such shortcuts, the only recourse is to place high barbed fences continuously along the dividers.
