Hygiene hazards and bad practices
During Friday afternoon - or in fact, at any time of the day - the connecting road between Hamdan Street and Electra Street is usually congested.
It is the place that everyone goes to, for gold and textile shopping. A large number of workers also come to the area from Mussafah and other locations for their last-minute shopping. The fact that most of the prominent money exchange centres are located here makes this locality extremely important for ordinary residents.
However, construction work has taken up a major chunk of the connecting road. On one side of the road are municipality trash bins, which get filled up in no time due to the large number of apartments and establishments in this area. This leaves only a small path sufficient enough for a car to carefully pass by between the thick flow of pedestrians. The bulging garbage remains there until the daily collection truck comes by, resulting in a foul smell which makes life difficult for the pedestrians who walk by.
These trash bins have also become a hiding place for people who are in a hurry to relieve themselves. It makes life miserable for everyone in the area! Many people indulge in this disgusting practice.
I would like to use this opportunity to request the authorities to urgently install one or two of the new self-operating toilets in the area.
Additionally, the small trees, which are of no use other than to provide cover to these unwanted activities, should be immediately removed. It would give the area more space and prevent such practices from occurring in the open.
