Get tough with litter louts

Only way to put message across to uncivilised shoppers is increased security and fines

Shop till we drop, eat, drink, throw our rubbish around, abuse public property and then leave the mall. This seems to be the way for some irresponsible people, and yet those same mall-goers seem to be the ones who lodge a complaint with the authorities if they do not find the mall spick and span on their next visit.

While on a recent trip to a mall in Dubai, I was quite appalled to see how shoppers threw their rubbish on the mall's chairs and how some also damaged the decor, or made the existing damage bigger. I feel that fining is the only way to civilise these people. Also, malls need to be widely covered by surveillance cameras and no visitor should be allowed to leave the mall until they are issued an exit visa from mall security.
