Every Friday evening there is a queue of about 200 to 300 people waiting at the Bur Dubai bus station to go to Abu Dhabi
Everybody sweats it out because of the scorching heat and high humidity.
Commuters are suffering a lot with a transportation issue — the low frequency of buses. Buses come every 15 to 20 minutes and each bus can only seat about 40 people. This means people may sometimes end up waiting for up to one hour in the line.
The long queues are especially bad during the weekends. During the Eid holidays, the bus stop was extremely crowded, as seen in the photograph I took.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) should supply more buses to Abu Dhabi or increase the frequency of the trips. Another solution could be to use bigger buses. In the future, it would be great if the Metro system could run from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. I hope the RTA looks into this issue for the commuters as early as possible.
An additional problem is at the busy Naif Park bus stop in Deira. There is only one Nol card recharge machine. Commuters always have to wait in line for a long time.
Commuters wanted at least one more Nol card machine in the area and some of us requested the RTA to fix one. The RTA installed another machine on the same road (Naif Road), however, since its installation, the machine has not been working. The display says ‘out of service'.
I moved to the area in April and until now, it hasn't been fixed. Commuters end up in long queues at a nearby machine. I hope the RTA will take this matter seriously.
