Community report: Danger lurks in Abu Dhabi street

Exposed electrical wires posing great threat to pedestrians, a Gulf News reader says

Last updated:

It is a well-known fact that electrical equipment can be very dangerous, especially for children. This is why I was extremely surprised to see the electrical wiring of a street lamp completely uncovered in a locality in Abu Dhabi.

Situated in a parking area between Khalifa Street and Hamdan Street, the pole in question caught my attention when I was passing by.

The red, yellow and blue wiring lies exposed at a low level and is very attractive to children who do not know better.

In fact, this particular area is surrounded by residential apartments and grocery stores, which children often frequent. I have seen many children in the area, playing games or commuting to and from their homes. It is only a matter of time before a five or six-year-old approaches it and gets seriously hurt.

A stitch in time saves nine. I hope the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) will do the needful and rectify the problem at the earliest.
