As we step out of our building in Sharjah, the stinking sewage water ruins the day. Cleaning the sewage system in Sharjah is a basic service. If rents are increasing, then why can’t the authorities maintain these basic services? I assume, here, most of the buildings have contracts with private companies to collect sewage.

In the picture, you can see stagnant sewage outside a restaurant near the National Paints, Sharjah. When we went to the restaurant, we were greeted with a foul smell.

Every time the door opened, one felt like vomiting while eating. Nowadays, I have started opting for takeaway service for the food, because I just can’t sit there and eat. When I spoke to the restaurant attendants, they said that nothing has been done about the sewage water for a long time.

The restaurant staff have put bricks over the water, so that the staff and customers can step on them to enter.

The sewage removal needs to be done quickly before it starts affecting the health of the people living nearby. Soon, diseases might start spreading due to this. I have noticed several mosquitoes in the area.
