Passengers stand in the heat near Al Jafiliya Metro Station
The Dubai One World Trade Centre interchange bus stops — total of three — have been relocated to Al Jafiliya Metro Station area by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) since March 15, this year. So, the commuters have to use the bus stop at the Al Jafiliya Metro Station bus every day. But, in this bus shelter, there is no air conditioner and seats for the commuters. They have to wait outside for their buses even in the summer.
The Ministry of Interior is located across the street from the Metro station. There is a bus stop located in front of the Ministry of Interior, too, which also doesn’t have air conditoners and seats.
At the same time, five bus shelters that were being used at the bus stops located at the One World Trade Centre interchange are still standing. Additionally, there are two Nol card recharge machines there. However, since the bus stops have been relocated, nobody has been using these since March 15.
Recently, at about 11am, I went to this area and spent an hour there to find out if anyone uses the air conditioned bus shelters and Nol card machines.
I found out that nobody has been using both of them. Out of the five shelters, the doors to two were open. I closed the doors to stop the cool air from escaping. The air conditioners were constantly on and energy was being wasted.
Thus, I don’t think there is a need for the authorities to spend more money. They could just move the functioning air conditioners to the shelters near Al Jafiliya Metro Station.
The RTA wants us to have a convenient and comfortable journey. I hope they will fix the air conditioners and seats quickly, and install a Nol card machine near the Al Jafiliya Metro Station.
