I'm sure you all have some way of contributing to society, but if not or if you're looking for something new, how about supporting Al Rahma Animal Welfare Society? The Abu Dhabi-based group generously gives the energy, time and resources to saving animals.

We've all heard the cases of abused pets, severely injured stray cats and dogs and abandoned animals, but it's not enough to just read about it and feel sorry. Just as Al Rahma does everything it can to change this, we too can make a difference!

Al Rahma is a no-kill animal welfare society. Their premise for all the work they do is being a ‘No Kill Society', which means they do everything in their power to save every animal that comes into their care. They've already saved thousands of animals to date!

Al Rahma works in cooperation with Blue Oasis Vets in Green Community and Modern Vets in Jumeirah. All of the medical bills for the animals are paid by Al Rahma from any donations they've collected. With their no-kill policy, they have a lot of surgeries to pay for.

As part of the Dubai Flea Market, we are organising a fundraiser to help Al Rahma pay all its bills. The organisers are myself, a new volunteer with Al Rahma, and my sister Jade Myburgh. Also a very big thank you must be given to Friends of Animals who have helped support us all the way!

Everything we have collected so far has been great. Initially we had a small goal of Dh10,000, but we've had a sudden increase in responses so we're hoping for a lot more support.

Priority items include clothing, accessories, jewellery, shoes, bedding, bags, and toys. Please note that items should be in good condition and personal items, such as underwear, cannot be sold.

We are very grateful to those who are interested in lending a helping hand for the day. We are looking for volunteers who can assist with the sale of items, monitoring of the tables, and handing out of flyers.

If you have any items that you would like to donate for the sale, please email me at rmyburgh@gmail.com and we will arrange for a collection.

The more contributors we have, the bigger the success! Thank you all for your wonderful support.
