1. They can feed their family pretty much any leftovers. They’ll be too sleepy to notice.

2. The toaster is the best invention ever. Even kids have been known to figure out
its golden, crunchy secrets.

3. Mothers can always stuff a hastily made sandwich into their children’s hands as they run towards the school bus. By the time they realise it’s their least favourite filling, it’s too late
to do anything but eat it grudgingly.

4. All that matters is to ensure that everybody has a box of their favourite cereal handy. No complaints and minimum fuss.

5. Bread, peanut butter, jams, cheese... all of these were created for mothers who wanted to have a lie-in at weekends. Let your older kids concoct sandwiches for the smaller ones and your weekend mornings will be more peaceful.

6. Wishing for breakfast in bed? Groan and the family is most likely to give you a treat in bed early in the morning when their favourite TV shows are not demanding their time.

7. Some fresh fruit, a glass of juice and a yogurt. No cooking involved and you can tell the family you’re helping them to be healthy.

8. The power of a superhero or cartoon character – tell your little ones they have to eat everything to be as strong as Bob the Builder  or Tinkerbell and they’ll polish off the lot.

9. It’s the perfect time to host a family cookery competition. And what does the winner get? “The right to make the first meal of the day for the entire family every weekend!” The kids won’t know what hit them.

10. And then there are brunches. Two meals sorted in one go.
