Dubai: On Instagram, Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor honoured her late mother, Sridevi, on the actor’s birth anniversary, and social media users “loved” the gesture. Sridevi died in February of this year and would have been 55 years old today.

Her post received more than 400,000 likes and 2,000 comments. On twitter #Sridevi was a top trend as fans remembered the veteran actor and expressed their grief at her sudden demise.

In the “heartwarming” post, Kapoor shared a picture of her mother holding her as an infant, with her father, Boney Kapoor behind them. The picture did not have a caption.

@lesha.vanhell commented on the post and said: “Your mother was a beautiful soul and touched so many people worldwide. I know she is proud of you both.”

And @farazmanan said: “She lives forever in our hearts.”

@niyatigoel said: “We ‘Sridevians’ miss her every minute… I know how you must be feeling as her daughter #happybirthdaySridevi.”

Kapoor once opened up about her mother’s death and said she felt a “gnawing hollowness in (her) chest”. She added that preparing for her debut film Dhadak at the time, helped her cope with the loss.

This year, on her birthday, Kapoor penned another emotional post about her mother and said: “On my birthday, the only thing I ask of all of you is that you love your parents. Cherish them and devote yourself to making them feel that love. They have made you. And I ask that you remember my mother fondly, pray for her soul to rest in peace…”

Designer Manish Malhotra on his official Instagram handle posted a picture of himself with Sridevi with the caption: “I truly miss you very much.”

On twitter fans praised Sridevi’s legacy and called her an “icon”. Others still couldn’t come to terms with her death.

@proud_2beindian said: “Remembering my all-time favourite Sridevi Ji on her birth anniversary. Ma’am still can’t believe that you are no more. Please come back. We will never [replace] you #HappyBirthdaySridevi.”

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi said: “Still seems so hard to believe that the legendary #Sridevi ji is not with us. We all miss you incredibly and will always cherish the lovely memories you have given us. You will always hold a special and irreplaceable place in all our hearts. #HappyBirthdaySridevi #SrideviLivesForever.”

The actress was honoured at this year’s International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) awards for her performance in the film Mom.

Sridevi’s died on February 24 in Dubai because of accidental drowning and was found with traces of alcohol in her body. The actress is survived by her two daughters Janhvi and Kushi Kapoor, and her husband producer Boney Kapoor.
