What can we expect from your concert in Dubai this weekend?

People should expect it as one of the biggest event in Dubai in recent times as it’s being held on Atlantis Beach at Atlantis, The Palm. I will be performing all of my new numbers.

Congratulations, you just got married recently. Has your change in marital status seen a decline in the number of female fans?

Well, this had to happen one day! I know some of them will be heartbroken but they will come back soon as they know they can’t resist my charms!

You will be performing on the same night at Punabi rapper Hard Kaur. Can we expect a joint club mix with you two?

Well it depends if we will get some time on the last day to rehearse something together.

You are considered Bollywood’s go-to singer for romantic songs. Are you hoping to diversify your appeal?

I am a romantic singer for Bollywood but all of my other work is non-filmi. It’s the music which reflects my true soul.

How would you rate your journey in Bollywood?

Alhamdulillah I’m blessed and enjoy the love of people in Bollywood. It’s a sad part that most of the credit goes to the hero but it’s part of the game and every one knows it before coming to this field. Actors come to me and appreciate the fact for making that song more special to them.

Many Pakistani singers are making it big in Bollywood. Do you think you led that cross-over?

It’s not about leading, it’s about having your own style for which people identify you and keep themselves interested in your music. So, it’s people to decide who is the leader and who is not.

Who’s one actor/director that you can never say no to in Bollywood?

It depends what they say!

There is a debate raging in India about lyrics in music/cinema triggering violence against women, Do you subscribe to it or not?

Every one has a right to freedom of expression. So if someone does not like anything, just move ahead. I believe still good lyrics make any song memorable.

Who’s your biggest idol and why?

I don’t believe in idols. I take inspiration from everything around me to create music and lyrics.

Tell us about your fondest musical memory and your most memorable concert?

There are so many good times, alhamdulillah, travelling with family and friends bring great memories. My most memorable concert was my first time performing at the O2 when it was packed with an audience. I loved performing there and thoroughly surfed the waves of jubilation in the audience.

Out of your rich catalogue of hits, which is your favourite composition and why?

I like Jalpari as it’s related to water and water inspires me a lot for everything.
