Arshad Warsi found working with Dedh Ishqiya co-star Madhuri Dixit distracting, but not intimidating.

“She’s lovely, very graceful lady, very talented, very pretty, very professional” Warsi told tabloid!. “I’ve been a fan of hers all my life. I won’t say I was scared of working with her because I think I’ve gone past that stage of life. But, it’s a little hard to get away from the fact that you are a fan and now you are a colleague. That can take up certain amount of concentration from my work. But I’ve reached a stage in my career where it’s hard for an actor to intimidate me”.

Known for his perfect comic timing in roles such as Circuit in Munnabhai, Babban in Ishqiya, Rajeev ‘Ron’ Mathur in Salaam Namaste and Madhav in Golmaal 3, Warsi has managed to create characters that leave an impression in the viewers’ minds.

“To differentiate one character from another, the best way to do that is to speak to and listen to the director and writer. They’ve sat on a script and worked out a character, imagined a person. As an actor it’s your job to enact a character someone has conceived,” said Warsi. “And then I put my bit in. That’s the best way to do it. Once you do that, every character becomes different. That’s why all my characters seem different, even though they may be essentially comic characters. But if I had my own perception every time, they’d all be the same because my comfort level as a person is the same. I always try and make my character likeable. For example in Munnabhai MBBS, my character is a gangster, a rude, crude, obnoxious character but people still like him.”

Warsi’s Mr Joe B Carvalho, another comedy, is currently showing at the cinemas. He is currently working on Subhash Kapoor’s Guddu Rangeela. Kapoor will also be directing the third instalment of Munnabhai, which is still in the scripting stage.

“Once the script is done and as soon as Sanju [Sanjay Dutt] is out of jail, we’ll start shooting,” said Warsi.
