“When you love someone, give your 100 per cent without expecting anything in return. That is true love.”

This was the message put across by Shekhar Ravjiani of the Vishal-Shekhar duo before he soulfully sang Zehnaseeb, from the 2014 movie Hasee Toh Phasee.

The Bollywood music directing duo, who performed at The Dome, Dubai Sports City, on Friday, kept the audience on their toes with compositions that would make even people with two left feet get up and dance.

The show titled Vishal & Shekhar Swag Tour got off to a lively start with DJ Scorpio setting the atmosphere on a balmy evening with his selection of peppy numbers followed by Anusha Mani of Gulaabo fame, appearing in a shimmering dress, regaling the audience with a few fast songs that included Har Kisi Ko Nahi Milta Yahan Pyaar Zindagi Mein, Sooraj Dooba Hain, Kabira and Channa Mereya.

Then, in a change of genre, she switched to Punjabi with Mundian To Bach Ke, Kala Chashma and London Thumakda. As if to tell us what’s in store ahead, she belted out Raat Baaki Baat Baaki.

Mani, who calls herself a feminist, dedicated Senorita to all the women in the audience.

Time was rolling by, but the much-anticipated moment didn’t come before 10.30pm. A couple of spaced-out announcements later, the star duo arrived on the tastefully done stage with a big bang, starting off with Bachna Ae Haseeno wooing the women and following it up quickly with a prophetic Wakt Ka Kya Bharosa, Dance Basanti and Salaam Namaste.

Gauging the mood of the audience, Dadlani exhorted everyone in the hall to get up on their feet and put up their hands in the air for Dus Bahane Karke Le Gaye Dil, and I Hate Luv Storys.

By now the audience was fully charged up and Ravjiani took the stage as the spotlight is trained on him at the keyboard singing Dil Ne Tumko Chun Liya Hai. Playing the keyboard with consummate ease, he ends the medley with Jo Bheji Thi Dua and Bin Tere.

After a brief interlude, it’s Dadlani’s turn with Tune Maari Entriyaan. Like most performers, he too loves to see his audience up close and repeatedly pleaded with the security to allow those seated at the back to fill up the space in front of the stage to dance to his tunes. Reluctantly they are allowed, and then it’s a no-holds-barred performance for both the singers and the dancers.

Dad made the young and old and, yes, the coy VIP and VVIP audience dance, too.

Vishal and Shekhar, who teamed up 17 years ago with the movie Jhankar Beats, came together for the finale of the show with their adrenaline pumping numbers Ude Dil Befikre, Swag Se Karenge Sabka Swagat, Dil Diyan Gallan, 440 Volt, the naughty Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai and Om Shanti Om.

But for the rather sparse attendance, we were so caught up with their performance that we didn’t realise it was 1.30am by the time the show ended.
