Modhesh is one of the most lovable mascots of Dubai. He is a symbol of summer and a great way to spread the messages of fun, joy, caring and sharing among children and families.

This year, Modhesh is touring around the entire city for multiple meet and greets with children. On his journey, he will star in sessions and shows for school children, meet children of determination, as well as visit malls to entertain families. During those visits he will interact with fans of all ages, pose for photographs and distribute complimentary tickets for visits to Modhesh World, one of the region’s biggest indoor edutainment destinations.

Here are five fun facts that you didn’t know about Modhesh.

1. He isn’t a boy or a girl

Although we refer to Modhesh as “he”, the mascot is technically genderless. It is a children’s toy, a jack-in-the-box, which is obvious due to the similarities to an accordion. The reason so many people thing Modhesh is a boy, is because his name in Arabic, “amazing”, is used to describe a masculine noun. For feminine, one would use the word “Modhesha” instead.

2. Modhesh is 21 years old

The mascot emerged on the Dubai summer scene in 1997 and has been around ever since. He’s been showing kids for over two decades that summers can be fun, and that it’s possible to stay active, happy and still have a sense of adventure in 45 degree heat.

3. He was created by a Filipino artist

Late veteran Filipino artist Romulo ‘Romy’ Miclat was the creator of Modhesh. The multi-talented architect, illustrator, painter and cartoonist created the character after he was commissioned by a Dubai ad agency.

4. His hair tells a story

Modhesh has seven hairs on his head, in a way paying homage to the seven emirates in the UAE.

5. Modhesh World starts today!

The 19th edition of Modhesh World, which opens on June 7 and runs until August 25 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, is a festival full of attractions perfect for children and families looking to have an adventure.

Since Modhesh World opened its doors in 2000, its goal has been to inspire young minds by combining education with entertainment. It offers a range of experiences that kids of all ages will find engaging and enjoyable.
