He is known as the disruptor, an artistic rebel of sorts and a genius when it comes to blending realistic shots of the world around him with a surrealist, sensual picture equated to high art. He is Guy Bourdin, the legendary photographer known for his work for prominent fashion magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar and brands such as Chanel and French shoemaker Charles Jourdan.
For the first time ever in the Middle East, several of the iconic images of the acclaimed photographer are being shown at That Concept store, a homegrown destination for modern and contemporary lifestyle, luxury and fashion in Mall of the Emirates.
The exhibition has been staged with e-commerce platform ap8.art and reveal the work behind one of the masterminds of contemporary photography through the presentation of Bourdin’s work and its fusion of surrealism, documentary photography, sensuality and playfulness—both joyful and dark.
Bourdin’s work has been exhibited at the Tate Modern, the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Getty Museum, The National Art Museum of China and The Toyko Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.
Works presented at That Concept Store are available in limited edition prints via That Concept and ap8.art.
“It has been a dream of mine to bring this sumptuous exhibition to the Middle East. There is no better place than THAT to showcase the artworks of the iconic Guy Bourdin—the photographer who was responsible for elevating fashion photography to an art form,” stated says Viola Raikhel, Curator, and co-founder, ap8.art. “This curated and framed collection is going to transform the home of collectors in Dubai and beyond.”
Staging this exhibition is groundbreaking not only to serve as inspiration for photographers from the region, but to shed light on the importance of fashion and art photography as portraying crucial moments in time.
The exhibition runs until March 7.
