French luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton has named Grammy-winning producer, rapper, singer and songwriter Pharrell Williams as its new menswear creative director. The global luxury brand announced on Tuesday that it tapped Williams to fill the high-profile position left vacant since the death of star designer Virgil Abloh over a year ago.

Louis Vuitton announced on Tuesday that it has hired Pharrell Williams to head artistic direction of its menswear designs and described him as a “visionary whose creative universes expand from music to art, and to fashion. The way in which he breaks boundaries across the various worlds he explores aligns with Louis Vuitton’s status as a cultural maison, reinforcing its values of innovation, pioneer spirit and entrepreneurship”.

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new men’s artistic director,” Mr. Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO said in the brand’s statement. “His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton toward a new and very exciting chapter.”

Williams's first collection for the label will be shown in June during Men's Fashion Week in Paris, the brand announced.
