Fendi has just launched a new anniversary collection featuring Tiffany & Co., Marc Jacobs, and Sarah Jessica Parker, to celebrate 25 years of the timeless Baguette bag

Fendi is celebrating 25 years of its iconic Baguette bag with a new anniversary collection that has just been presented at a show held in New York where the Baguette was made famous in the first place.

The Baguette bag was designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi and released in 1997, becoming a revolutionary pop culture and fashion icon when Sarah Jessica Parker declared, “It’s not a bag, it’s a Baguette,” in the television show Sex and the City.

For the birthday bash, Fendi got together no les than six designers to interpret their own Baguette bags, including Silvia Venturini Fendi and Kim Jones, Marc Jacobs, Tiffany & Co., Japanese brand Porter, and American actress Sarah Jessica Parker.

“I didn’t want to do a traditional ‘collection’ for the anniversary,” said Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Womenswear at Fendi. “Rather it’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous. I relate that time to a sense of freedom in excess and fun – both qualities the Baguette possesses.”

Tiffany reinterpreted the Baguette bag with the use of sterling silver, enamel, croco, white gold and diamonds, with the T and the F encrusted in diamonds and Tiffany Blue crocodile leather engraved with floral motifs.

For Marc Jacobs, the bag’s representation of New York played a leading role in the design of his Baguette which is inspired by workmen’s fluorescent safety vests and the gritty, edgy side of the city.

“I’ve got one word: Fendiroma. And it is one word! It is another land, this Fendiroma...

And I’ve got two words: The Baguette. It’s a bag – and I am never one to shy away from an iconic bag,” said Marc Jacobs, Creative Director and Founder, Marc Jacobs.

Parker designed hers with embroidery and a pallet of purple, wasabi, baby pink and soft blue, featuring four interchangeable buckles for whatever mood strikes you. Meanwhile luggage maker Porter went in the other direction with a masculine theme fused with Japanese craftsmanship highlighting lightness and practicality.

“It was a special day when I designed this bag; the stars aligned. The horoscope said it was a Fendi day,” said Fendi about her timeless Baguette.

The anniversary collection has already been released on sale yesterday both at fendi.com and Fendi boutiques worldwide.
