This year at the 79th Venice Film Festival the organisers have for the first time introduced the Venice Immersive competition, a virtual reality extension of the festival which explores all manner of creative expression, including 360-degree videos and XR works, installations, live performances, as well as virtual worlds.

A total of 44 projects are included in 2022 from 19 different countries: seven 360-degree videos, 20 Standalone projects, 11 Installations, five VR worlds on VRChat, and one Special Screening Event.

One of the most highly anticipated highlights of Venice Immersive is Academy Award-winning French actress Marion Cotillard portraying Coco Chanel in the Maison’s immersive, interactive and multisensory experience titled Rencontre(s).

Produced by Parisienne motion studio Atelier Daruma, Rencontre(s) is a 15-minute experience in which viewers are participants, incorporated into the sets as the animation goes on. The story imagines Paris one hundred years ago, as Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel meets with legendary innovator Ernest Beaux, perfumer to the court of the Tsars, to create the perfume that would become the iconic Chanel N°5.

In Rencontre(s) the idea is to transport the participant back in time to 1921, playing the role of Beaux and fulfilling your appointment with Coco to present your five samples. The ‘Queen of Paris’ awaits.
