A new leisure destination in Dubai has just opened, and it's offering something unique to UAE residents: it's got a rustic farm vibe with a huge lake, plenty of landscaped picnic areas and Instagram-worthy spots.
The new development by Meraas, called The Yard, is also home to Dubai's first ever love lock bridge, inspired from the famous Pont des Arts in Paris, where couples can hang a signed padlock to symbolise their ever-lasting love.
Where is the Yard located?
Offering a laid-back atmosphere and located in Al Khawaneej area, the new destination encompasses Last Exit D89, which was launched in 2017 as an initial phase, and a picturesque 350,000-square-foot extension.
It opened its doors to the public on January 25 and is set to expand into a 2.8 million square-foot development.
What can you do there?
Dubbed as the “suburban hideaway,” The Yard has its own rustic courtyard, a lake, shaded walking trails and expansive landscaped picnic areas.
Visitors can also find an organic farmer’s market, a bakery, air-conditioned and open-air restaurants and dining spaces, as well as shops.
“The design of The Yard is inspired by the surrounding neighbourhoods, known as Dubai’s agricultural heartland. The architecture, interiors and landscaping create a laid-back ambience for families from the local community and beyond to enjoy,” Meraas said in a statement on Sunday.
"The Yard seeks to blend a rural farm vibe with urban accents and it has a visual identity with playful murals that provide an ideal backdrop for guests taking photographs."
There’s an 18-metre-tall windmill, a water mill, a wishing well, decorative vintage pick-up trucks, farm animals and bird houses. For a nostalgic feel, there’s a ‘Promise Bridge’ where loved-up visitors can hang padlocks to leave their mark on the walkway.
