Iftar review: Azur Restaurant, Raffles Hotel

The time of the year is once again upon us when the sun screams louder and the streets become quiet as we settle into summer and Ramadan.
It’s also a time when we think of family and of spending time together, of sacrifice and spirituality.
And at this time of year we are spoiled for choice in where we can enjoy our Iftars and suhoors — when we get to spend precious time with family and friends.
One such place to try this Ramadan is Azur Restaurant at Raffles Hotel. A lot of work has been put in to make it a special evening for families and groups of friends, and it will not disappoint. It is simple and satisfying and set in the stunning Raffles Hotel, which could easily elicit a small gasp when entering its grand lobby.
The food on offer is what you would expect for an Iftar, with many Arabic staples such as lamb ouzi and an array of fresh and tasty salads and starters — all anyone could wish for in a delightful, bright and airy setting, one perfect for families and groups.
The staff are friendly and accommodating and help make it an enjoyable and pleasant night for guests.
There is also a soup station, cold and hot mezza assortments and a live mixed grill set-up. The highlight for me was the lamb ouzi, it was delicate and delicious.
Dessert was marked by traditional Umm Ali and kunafa as well as a number of other cakes and tasty bites.
There is a designated drinks station serving a range of traditional Ramadan juices such as tamarind, Qamar Al Deen and jallab.
This year the restaurant is showcasing art from Mawaheb Art studio, a studio for people with special needs. The art work is presented at the entrance of the restaurant and is worth a look.
