The Gulf News Fun Drive wouldn’t be possible without the volunteer team of dedicated marshals who ensure that the event is as safe as it is fun. Some even dating back to the very first Fun Drive, each year these intrepid men and women patrol the route, extracting stuck vehicles, getting lost drivers back on track, and offering their valuable expertise about the landscape.
This year we extend a very special thank you to John Spiller for his very first turn in the position of route director, and deputy route director Saliya Jayaweera, who journeyed all the way from Sri Lanka to oversee this year’s Fun Drive and act as route designer.
Special thanks also goes out to sector chiefs Gary Wheeler, Mark Leonard, and Mitch Perera and their helpers, who each did an admirable job of overseeing their respective stages of this year’s Liwa route. “The Gulf News would like extend a huge thank you to all the marshals for giving their time and energy to this year’s Fun Drive,” said Gulf News promotions manager Naheed Patel.
