Dubai Winter Festival the annual event dedicated to festive fun returns to Dubai Media City Amphitheatre on December 6 for four days. Featuring everything Christmas and lots of cheer, organisers have added some new elements this year, including a dedicated party garden for over 21s, a Pub Quiz, and a talent search.

Here are nine things to know about the event:

 

1. WINTER IS COMING EARLY

The Dubai Winter Festival’s doors open for the first time on Wednesday afternoon at 4pm with a number of new events to get the festival off to a colourful start.

 

2. A STAR WILL BE BORN

Parents of aspiring singers, dancers, actors and performers can shine on stage and showcase their talents, for a chance to win Dh1,000 in cash and a term at the Dubai Performing Arts Academy, on the first day, on Wednesday. Pre-register on the event’s website to participate. The hunt culminates on the main stage at 4pm.

 

3. THE PUB QUIZ

Kick-starting the festival on Wednesday, December 6, from 7.30pm, a radio station will host a Pub Quiz, and attempt to make it the largest number of participants for a pub quiz ever played in Dubai. There will be plenty of festive prizes so grab your friends and colleagues and test your knowledge in the festive-themed quiz for the chance to be crowned the ultimate Pub Quiz winners.

 

4. THE PARTY GARDEN

A new addition for 2017, the Party Garden will offer a dedicated area for adults to enjoy the festive spirit with games, competitions, karaoke and bar serving winter beverages. A great place for some peace and joy for those over 21 only.

 

5. PANTOMIME - SANTA’S NEW APPRENTICE

The annual Pantomime returns this year with a search for Santa’s New Apprentice, which is sure to be full of fun and laughter, song and dance for the whole family to enjoy. There will be daily one hour shows starting on Thursday, December 7, afternoon at 3.30pm and returning on Friday and Saturday at 2pm.

 

6. LET THERE BE SNOW

Kids will love making the perfect snow angel or have fun throwing snowballs in the Haribo Snow Play Zone. There will be snow falling every every hour and kids will have free access all day.

 

7. GETTING CHEESY WITH IT

Want to find out how to make the perfect Christmas cheeseboard? The cheese corner will feature demonstrations and workshops run by French cheese-monger, Francois Robin. Voted as the “Best Cheese-Monger in 2011” and currently working to promote French and European cheese in the Middle East, this is one highlight cheese lovers do not want to miss.

 

8. BIG MOUTH, TREBLE MAKERS AND SALHA LIVE ON STAGE

The weekend’s live entertainment will include rock bands Big Mouth, Treble Makers and Salha, one of the most sought after female vocalists in the Middle East famous for her chameleon like ability to strut her funk in an afro or drape elegantly over a grand piano keeping you entertained all weekend long.

 

9. TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

Every evening at 6pm, there will be a giant Christmas tree lighting ceremony to light up the winter festival even more.
