Filipino artist Aiza Seguerra will serenade her fans in Dubai as she returns for a show dubbed Love & Acoustic – Aiza Seguerra Live in Dubai on June 5 at Asiana Hotel’s Boracay Night Club. Seguerra is expected to showcase a repertoire that includes songs from her recently released album Araw Gabi: Mga Awit ni Maestro Ryan. The 12-track album is a tribute to Filipino composer and music icon Ryan Cayabyab.

The multi-awarded singer-actress has been a regular performer in the emirate, although it was in 2013 when she last performed in Dubai. “I’m excited to be back again. I love the food, restaurants and I’m really enjoying the warmth of our kababayans [compatriots] whenever I perform there,” Seguerra tells tabloid!.

Sequerra also expressed her gratitude to her fans in the UAE, who have been loyal supporters of her singing career. “Thank you for always supporting me — for the very warm support, kasing-init ng disyerto [as hot as the desert]! As a performer, it always feels good that the audience is very enthusiastic. I hope in my own little way I can give joy and let them feel they are back in the Philippines through the show.”

Having performed a number of times in Dubai, Seguerra says her upcoming show will be different as it will be a collaboration with her significant other. “It will feature the High on Love concert, a concept [developed] with my wife Liza,” says Seguerra.

One thing that makes Dubai different from other countries she has visited? “The heat! Dubai is one big playground — a really fun experience going around.”

She says some of her most memorable experiences in the city include going to the desert to catch the sunrise. “I took shots since I’m into photography,” she says. “And of course, the desert safari and The Dubai Mall.”

The 31-year-old singer-songwriter has always been open and vocal about her gender preference and her same-sex relationship. Seguerra married her fiancee, Filipino actress-beauty queen Liza Dino, last year.

She acknowledges that celebrities like her will always have their share of faultfinders. “In my life I only listen to five people whom I trust: wife, mum, dad and two more people. They give balance, give critique... I always listen to them, not to people I don’t know much.”

Just this month, Seguerra hogged the limelight when she helped a pregnant woman give birth at the height of a typhoon in the Philippines. Sequerra was driving from Baguio when a man stopped her vehicle to ask for help in bringing a pregnant woman to the nearest hospital. “I was on my way home. It was flooding and I had no choice but to deliver the baby in the vehicle. It was a girl, named after me.” Seguerra said she called a doctor to guide her in assisting the mother with the delivery.

The former child star has been in the industry for more than two decades and she says being true to herself has been key to her success. “I believe everyone is unique. I make sure I’m just being myself, no pretensions, not copying anyone.”

She adds: “We make sure we don’t commit the same mistakes, [and that we make] better judgment, better decisions. Do not compete with anyone to be a good artist. If you think of competition, you will lose the ‘rawness’. Give your heart all the time, 100 per cent. Whether in a big or small event, give your all.”

One of her missions as an artist is to help uplift the Filipino spirit, especially with all the problems the country is facing right now. “I want to inspire through my songs, to do better and to touch people, open their eyes.”

In less than a year, Filipinos will be casting their votes for different government posts.

We asked Seguerra if she has plans to run for public office or if she is supporting any politician, particularly for the presidency. “I’ve always wanted to,” she says. “If I’m going to run, I should start from the bottom (barangay level). “For presidency, if they will run, I’ll support Miriam Defensor or Rodrigo Duterte.”
