We aren’t sure how exactly everyone started jumping on the exact same waggons as everyone else.

BANANA BREAD: The banana bread obsession is REAL during quarantine. Everyone, including myself, (no shame) has been making banana bread from scratch at home. Then posting about it. Well, it seems like during uncertain times, there’s a desire to have a sense of control and the mindful act of baking and following instructions, is exactly what calms us down during this time. Also banana bread is a sweet but doesn’t feel too indulgent if we are caving something comforting.

TIE DYE SWEAT SETS: Thanks to the influencers for this one. All over Instagram, all I see are female influencers wearing tie dye. Like who knew that fashion trends can emerge when all we do is sit around at home? Do I need to buy tie dye clothes now? I probably won’t, but you have to admit it is impressive that despite all of these roadblocks in the economy, the fashion industry still managed to convince us that we HAVE to have something, to just sit around at home in.

GOING LIVE ON INSTAGRAM: Probably one of the more annoying trends. Everyone and anyone is going live. Usually jumping in with someone else. Sure it gives us something to watch on Instagram, but I think this is something I personally don’t think I need. Lives have also been places where celebs really put their foot in it, a la Kendal Jenner and Justin Bieber. When it’s night time here in the UAE, that’s when all the American celebs and influencers are wide awake and live-ing with their buddies.

MAKING PUZZLES: I have to say, I totally got caught up with obsessing over puzzles. And no lie, I never even bought a single one before COVID-19. Now I have a strong urge to buy a 1000 piece puzzle and use it as a productive activity to keep me busy.

DALGONA COFFEE: This frothy DIY coffee drink is a cheap and cheerful viral trend that everyone these days seems to be whipping up at home. The light as air drink is known as Dalgona coffee. The latest Instagram food trend is meant to be made at home and shared online, which might be why you are seeing it all over social media. Obviously.

MEDICAL MASK FASHION: Going to the supermarket has now become a big deal. You have to get a shot of yourself looking cool in your casual wear, sneakers, cross body and face mask. Who knew there’d ever be a reason for us to want to look cool, while looking like that?

QUARANTINE ROUTINES: “A lot of you have been asking me about my Quarantine Routine. So here it is.” Scroll through YouTube and you’ll notice that influencers have started posting a lot more of how they are spending time at home. Never would this have been something we are interested in.

POSTING TRAVEL #THROWBACKS: Looks like people are scrolling through their old social media photos since everyone keeps posting throwback, pictures from old trips and generally photos of being out and about.

CINNAMON ROLLS: Now that everyone and their mother made their banana bread from scratch, the next step was to graduate to cinnamon rolls. Dispite what you may think, cinnamon rolls are quite easy to make. No lie, I’ve made them from scratch a couple of times.

BORED IN A HOUSE BORED IN A HOUSE BORED: There’s no denying that TikTok was always popular but the ‘stay at home, bored at home’ content has gone through the roof.
