The Spa-like serenity of Silk & Spice goes a notch higher this week as the restaurant celebrates Loi Krathong Thai Food Festival with an exceptional South-Eastern Asian menu. Loi Krathong or the festival of lights is an annual festival celebrated throughout Thailand and comes from the tradition of making krathong or buoyant, decorated baskets,which are floated on a river.
Running till November 9, the festival will also host traditional Thai dancers. While you enjoy the sumptuous dinner and the lilting moves of Thai dancers, you also have a chance to win Etihad airline tickets to Phuket with a stay at Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort in Bangkok.
There is little reason not to bet on your lucky stars when you relish the complimentary fried scallops topped with fried onions.
We had a smashing start to our dinner as the mixed platter of fried jumbo prawns, chicken dim sum, pandan chicken and papaya salad arrived at our table. The crispy papaya salad with a generous dose of peanuts, and crispy fried yet soft jumbo prawns were our favourites. The banana-wrapped pandan chicken, however, did not leave any impressions on our taste buds.
But our disappointment was soon forgotten with the arrival of the main courses. The sweet and spicy salmon and the beef tenderloin were cooked to perfection. The sweet and spicy flavours were equally telling while the beef tenderloin was so soft that the meat just melted in the mouth. This came in contrast to the chewy chicken pieces in the Thai green curry.
Usually we are not the ones to give up on dessert. But this time around, a bloated stomach forced us to let go of the sweet treat.
