In recent years, India has emerged as a key player on the world stage
As India marks its 79th year of independence, we are reminded not just of a historic struggle but of a nation’s unflinching commitment to shaping its own future. August 15 is a day of deep pride for every Indian, both in the homeland and across the global diaspora. It is a time to reflect on how far the country has come, from its early post-independence challenges to becoming one of the most dynamic and resilient economies of the 21st century.
In recent years, India has emerged as a key player on the world stage. Transformational initiatives like Digital India, Start-Up India, and Make in India have redefined our economic outlook, fostering innovation, empowering small businesses, and digitising services at a scale few other nations have achieved. These programs have not only propelled India’s growth domestically but have also strengthened its reputation internationally as a hub of technology, creativity, and ambition.
This same spirit resonates powerfully within the Indian diaspora in the UAE, the largest Indian expatriate population in the world. With over 4.3 million Indians living and working here, the Indian community has become an integral part of the UAE’s social and economic fabric. Across every sector, from trade and finance to education and healthcare, Indians have contributed meaningfully to the progress of the Emirates while upholding their cultural identity and values.
The bilateral relationship between India and the UAE continues to grow in depth and dimension. Agreements such as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the integration of digital payment platforms like UPI and RuPay are emblematic of a maturing partnership built on mutual trust and economic synergy. The bond between the two nations goes beyond diplomatic agreements; it is anchored in shared aspirations for prosperity, innovation, and inclusive development.
At the Nikai Group of Companies, this spirit of cooperation is not an abstract concept; it is deeply embedded in our own journey. Founded in Dubai by an Indian entrepreneur nearly three decades ago, Nikai represents the entrepreneurial possibilities that arise when values like reliability and perseverance meet the opportunities offered by a welcoming host nation. Our evolution across sectors like electronics, logistics, and digital innovation reflects the broader narrative of UAE-India synergy: grounded in heritage, forward-looking in ambition.
Independence Day is, therefore, more than a commemoration of the past; it is a celebration of continuity, of progress rooted in purpose. It is an opportunity to recommit ourselves to the principles that shaped our freedom: dignity, unity, resilience, and hope. And for Indians in the UAE, it is a chance to celebrate the dual pride of contributing to both the country of our birth and the one we now call home.
As a former diplomat who made the transition into entrepreneurship, I have seen firsthand how India’s values and global vision have empowered individuals to thrive beyond borders. The Indian community in the UAE exemplifies the very best of what the country stands for: hard work, adaptability, and the constant drive to build something lasting.
As we look ahead, may this Independence Day inspire us all, citizens, entrepreneurs, leaders, and changemakers, to uphold the ideals of service, excellence, and innovation. Let us carry India forward, in word and deed, as global ambassadors of its promise and its potential.
“As we mark the 79th year of India’s independence, I extend heartfelt wishes to all Indians in the UAE and around the world. This day is not merely a remembrance of the past; it is a call to action for the future, to uphold the ideals of freedom and integrity, and to remember that democracy comes with rights and responsibilities.
India today stands tall on the global stage, driven by the aspirations of its people and the strength of its values. For the Indian diaspora, especially here in the UAE, this occasion holds a profound significance, it connects us to our roots while reminding us of our role in representing India abroad with dignity, responsibility, ambition, and resilience.
At Nikai Group, we are proud to reflect these principles in our journey, one built on reliability, inclusivity, and innovation. May this Independence Day inspire us all to continue striving for excellence, fostering unity, and contributing meaningfully to both the countries we call home.
Jai Hind. Long live the symbiotic, unique warm relationship between India and UAE”
