Think outside the box, this Rose Day: How about a rose-infused drink?

Not everyone melts at the sight of roses and chocolates. If your partner rolls their eyes at cliché romance, why not shake things up with something unexpected?

For this Rose Day, we got some ideas from Ileana Neal and Marianna Lewis, two Dubai-based event planners.

Food is the way to the heart

Rose-flavoured desserts: A well-curated menu with floral-infused treats adds a fun touch to the celebration. Rose-flavoured desserts, with their powerful aroma, take center stage. Think airy rose macarons, the chewy sweetness of Turkish delight, or a soft, fragrant rosewater-infused cake.

But why stop at sweets? Rose-infused drinks—like a refreshing rose lemonade or a rich, spiced rose and cardamom lassi—add a floral flourish. Even savoury dishes can get a subtle botanical upgrade: Rose petal chutneys, rose-scented biryanis, or even a rose-infused cheese platter create a perfectly balanced yet indulgent spread.

Romantic rose petal dinner: Go all out with a fancy meal, garnishing dishes with edible rose petals. Pair it with artisanal chocolates or rose-flavoured truffles for a truly decadent finish.

Not a fan of roses at all? No problem—plan a dinner that leans into romance without the petals. Truffle pasta, chocolate soufflé, or a beautifully arranged charcuterie board can do the trick. For a hint of floral elegance without roses, try saffron, lavender, or orange blossom. Whether you cook together, order from your favourite restaurant, or set up an intimate indoor picnic with candles and music, the experience will be just as special—no bouquet required.

A spa day

A self-care ritual is always a good idea, whether solo or shared. If your partner is a fan of rose scents, then a rose-themed spa is ideal. If they aren’t, skip the rose-scented everything and opt for something more tailored to their taste—earthy sandalwood, refreshing citrus, or calming vanilla. A massage, a facial, or a long bath with essential oils and soft music can turn an ordinary evening into something extraordinary.

Make memories not a purchase

Skydiving? Scuba diving? Why not? It may not be the kind of romance you find in poetry, but if it gets your hearts racing—in a good way—then it’s the perfect way to celebrate. Or just a rose flower lego set, you know, if they love building things?

Instead of gifting flowers, give the gift of an experience. Take a pottery class and create something together, embark on a scenic road trip, book a surprise staycation, or try an activity that neither of you has done before. A little adventure not only makes for unforgettable moments but also lasts far longer than a bouquet wilting on the table.

Letters over roses

If the idea of grand gestures feels forced, a heartfelt message can be even more meaningful. You don’t need the overly sentimental clichés and write something real—why you appreciate them, your favourite memory together, or something funny that always reminds you of them. A handwritten letter, a creative voice note, or even a playlist curated just for them can make a stronger impact than any floral arrangement.

Creative rose-themed gifts

For something a little different, there are plenty of unique and thoughtful alternatives that can add a romantic touch to the evening:

Rose jewellery: If they’re into trinkets, why not go for something with a rose twist? Look for earrings, bracelets, or necklaces featuring rose quartz—both beautiful and meaningful.

Rose-scented candles or perfumes: A luxurious rose perfume or a rose- scented candle could be just what they need to unwind and feel cherished.

Rose-infused skincare: Indulge them with a little pampering, like a face mask, serum, or bath salts infused with the soothing essence of roses. It’s a gift that combines relaxation with romance.

So, what if your partner isn’t into roses? You can still celebrate Rose Day in a way that’s fun, memorable, and just as romantic. Whether it’s through delicious treats, fragrant gifts, or creative experiences, your thoughtfulness will make this day extra special. H
