My fabulous Friday: Sachin Tendulkar

EASY STYLE

On weekends I prefer jeans and T-shirts or a linen shirt. I think fashion is about being satisfied with what you wear. As long as clothes fit well and I’m comfortable in them, I’m happy.

ALWAYS UP FOR GRUB

I’m a foodie, but if I had to pick a favourite cuisine it would be Japanese. That only comes after home-made Maharashtrian food, though. Nothing beats my mum’s prawn curry and varan bhaat (lentils and rice).

GROUND RULES

I have so many fond memories of the Sydney Cricket Ground - it is my favourite ground outside India. It holds a special place in my heart because of some great innings I played there, including my 100th test match.

ALL IN THE FAMILY

My father taught me that there are no shortcuts to success, and I’ve passed this lesson on to my daughter Sara (18) and son Arjun (16). Arjun has taken up cricket, but I don’t interfere in his career because it isn’t fair. I’ll guide him when he needs it, but he needs to make his own choices.

LONDON CALLING

I’m never picky about holiday destinations as long as I get quality time with my family. But London is a destination I thoroughly enjoy visiting. We make annual trips there, and we have a home in St John’s Wood.

WORLD TUNES

I’ll listen to any genre of music as long as I can connect with it. Language doesn’t matter. There are many Spanish songs I don’t understand but still enjoy. Gipsy Kings is a fantastic band from the south of France and I can’t comprehend a word of their songs, but I do listen to them now and then.

MOVIE MANIA

APPLE OF MY EYE

I can’t imagine being away from my iPod because I love music. It helps me to calm down. Before the 2011 World Cup semi-final versus Pakistan, I listened to Bade Achhe Lagte Hain from the film Balika Badhu for seven hours. Incidentally, I was named after the famous composer Sachin Dev Burman!

SUCH A SPORT

Cricket is my life, but I do enjoy playing other sports such as table tennis, tennis, squash and badminton. Growing up, I was a huge fan of tennis maestro John McEnroe and would wear headbands and wristbands to be like him. I always try and catch a game at Wimbledon when I’m in London.
