If you had been at the Kite Beach, Jumeirah, on January 8 at around 7 am you would have noticed a motley crowd walking slowly, silently, almost deliberately, along the walking track. You may have wondered at the distinct lack of animated conversation that usually accompanies such groups. The reason: this was no ordinary group, nor was it your regular morning walk.

The group, called UAE Meditates, offers free spiritual activities and workshops, primarily focused on meditation and yoga. ‘We enable like-minded people to engage in selfless service and free spiritual activities that help our community to raise awareness and to live healthy well-balanced lives,’ says their spokesperson Jay Vasu.

And the walk? ‘We call it the Conscious Walk, a form of meditating through walking,’ says Jay. So on January 8 the group had held their second Conscious Walk in Dubai, ‘next to the sea with first sun rays and pleasant ocean breeze’

More than 68 people participated in this meditative walk, designed by one of the founders of the group Mohanji. ‘Conscious Walking is a method that brings us to the present moment,’ he explains. ‘We are lost mostly in past-regrets and future-tensions. When we are in the present moment, we are very powerful. Being spiritual entails to be in the present moment.’

Conscious Walk takes only about 30 minutes, he says, but its effects and benefits are equivalent to three hours of meditation. ‘We operate in a 120 degree angle, which is front oriented, where our senses can reach,’ he says. ‘But, when we operate from our spine, we become aware in 360 degrees. Our auras are in 360 degrees. When we do Conscious Walking, we actually are concentrating within our auras. This energizes us. We literally are recirculating and reenergizing ourselves through our auras. Moreover, we are cut off from what is happening around us. This brings us to the present moment.’

Anybody can join their activities, that includes Power of Purity Meditation, Kundalini Meditation, Gong Meditation, Crystal Bowl Healing Sounds, Breathing Meditation, Zazen Meditation, as well as yoga sessions. All activities are free and open to everybody.

‘We are a neutral platform that is non-religious and not connected to specific organizations or teachers,’ says Jay. ‘All our activities are always free of charge. It is a true community platform. Everyone is welcome to participate, conduct and to share their knowledge and skills. Our activities are conducted by various community members. Thousands of lives have been touched already.’

The UAE Meditates is now one year old and is based on a concept already set up in Germany, Australia, UK and India. All country chapters are subsidiaries of The World Meditates, which originated from Germany.

The meditations are conducted every fortnight. For more information, check out their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/theuaemeditates
