I am planning to get married this year end. We, my fiance and I, are wanting to make the day really special. A few friends suggested we have a wedding planner. But can you tell me what exactly a wedding planner will bring to the table?

So you’re getting married. Exciting! Hiring a wedding planner may sound like a luxury, but after you factor in all of the time and money you’ll save with some expert assistance, it’s really a necessity.

Planning a wedding is supposed to be a fun journey leading up to the big day, but there really is a lot to organise and arrange. You’re not supposed to arrive at your own celebration so stressed out and exhausted that you forget what the reason for being there is.

Not only do these marriage magicians alleviate stress, allowing you to enjoy your big day, but they can save you some big bucks along the way.

The short answer to your question is: anything and everything you ask them to. The planner will help you with the best options under your budget for hotels and venues, invitation card designers, dedicated rsvp management, welcome hampers and thank-you notes and mementos, celebrant/priest, décor, make-up-artists, photographers/videographers, catering services, DJs, entertainment artists and so much more. They will have an established relationship with many vendors that can help you with your budget.

Any wedding can be a great wedding, large or small, as long as you are clear about what you want and the budget you have to achieve this.

As planners, we all have different personalities and ways of operating, and having a great rapport with your planners and a trust that they can deliver your vision is paramount.

Understanding what is included as part of the planning and management fee allows you to fully assess the support that will be provided. Make sure you are being listened to; it’s great if a planner can give you ideas and suggestions but make sure you’re getting your perfect wedding and not your planners. Whoever you choose they will be joining you on a very personal journey so take the time, talk to a few planners and see what they have to offer.

I have tried to be impartial and give you the facts as we know them. Knowing what you want and asking the right questions will go a long way to a smooth and enjoyable experience. Don’t ever let a concern become an issue- speak to your planners. The aim of the planner is always to give you, your partner, your family and your guests the most amazing experience.
