Dubai: The summer holidays are in full swing but Expo 2020 Dubai and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) have collaborated to bring you a fun way to beat back boredom and win tickets to the show for the whole family. Welcome to the ‘8 Week Streak’ challenge.
What is the ‘8 Week Streak’ challenge?
The Expo School Programme, the organisers’ educational outreach initiative, will issue challenges every month on its website until the opening of the event on October 1, 2021. Students can become ‘Expo Champions’ after completing the missions, which often involve tagging the official socials of Expo 2020 Dubai to raise awareness and to build anticipation.
In the same vein, the ‘8 Week Streak’ challenge for the months of July and August is based on weekly themes related to the Expo:
- Week 1 (July 4 to 10): Opportunity
- Week 2 (July 11 to 17): Mobility
- Week 3 (July 18 to 24): Sustainability
- Week 4 (July 25 to 31): Innovation and Technology
- Week 5 (August 1 to 7): Future of Food
- Week 6 (August 8 to 14): Arts and Culture
- Week 7 (August 15 to 21): Business and Entrepreneurship
- Week 8 (August 22 to 28): Grand prize winners announced
How can you participate?
It’s all about sharing your ideas with the world. Think about, for instance, what ‘Innovation and Technology’ means to you, then accordingly materialise it into an activity or project from scratch.
Students can choose to approach this activity or project from a wide variety of formats: song, painting, sculpture, graphic, comic, design, invention, game, theory, prototype, website, business idea, dance, story, play and recipe.
Once complete, post it on social media using the hashtags #8WeekStreak and #Expo2020Champions to enter the competition. The KHDA will then hold a poll for four finalists for that week, and the student with the most public votes takes home the tickets.
Mavinth Lobo, a student of GEMS New Millennium School in Al Khail, Dubai, took to Twitter to honour International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem (which falls on July 26). In his video for the Week 3 challenge, the student highlighted the need for sustainability through a self-built model of a mangrove habitat that won him a pass to the World Expo. Not only that, Lobo even takes a trip to Mangrove Beach in Umm Al Quwain in his elaborate presentation.
What is an Expo 2020 Dubai family season pass?
Every week, the organisers will pick the best submission to award them with a family season pass valid for two parents and two children. A season pass allows your family to enter the event for an unlimited number of times for the six months of Expo.
The grand prize winner towards the end of the eight-week streak will also win something special from Dubai Summer Surprises. So put your thinking hats on and crack the #8WeekStreak challenge to visit a gathering of 191 countries with workshops, activities and edutainment opportunities for kids.
