As the clock ticks down to October 21 (the day Marty McFly landed in the future), it looks like things aren’t going to quite match up to the version of 2015 we saw in 1989’s Back to the Future Part II. But while we may not have hover boards, we shall have weird, futuristic Pepsi.

Pepsi has announced that they will be releasing limited quantities of “Pepsi Perfect”, the future version of the soft drink Marty McFly encounters at Cafe 80’s in the film. Pepsi also has released a Pepsi Perfect commercial to mark the occasion.

Six thousand five hundred bottles of the soda will be made available, each with a special collectable case. Each bottle (with case) of real-life Pepsi Perfect will cost $20.15 (Dh74), which is much better than the $50 price tag from the movie.

But be aware, literalists, that Pepsi Perfect isn’t actually a new beverage. The 499ml Pepsi Perfect bottles will be filled with Pepsi made with real sugar, a formula you can already buy if you don’t want to drink Pepsi’s corn-syrup formula. (Real sugar is being used for Pepsi Perfect because corn syrup is apparently not the sweetener of the future.)

Pepsi Perfect will be made available for purchase online on October 21. No word yet on the URL or exact time (although if we had a say in the matter, we’d vote for 4.29pm).

However, Back to the Future fans who plan to attend New York Comic Con (NYCC) will have a chance to get a hold of Pepsi Perfect before the release. The first 200 fans dressed as Marty McFly who make it to the Pepsi Perfect booth each day of the convention will take home a bottle.

Now to find which NYCC booth will be handing out hover boards and robots.
