Weekend watchlist: 10 TV shows and movies to check out

‘White Lotus’ (OSN): This is one show that’s on everyone’s minds. It’s set in a tropical Hawaiian resort and follows the lives of guests and employees over the span of a week. ‘The White Lotus’ is touted as a sharp social satire that reveals complex truths.

‘Bell Bottom’ (UAE cinemas): Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar returns to the big screen in this action thriller set in the 1980s. He plays a RAW agent who is tasked with solving a hijacking. The movie is based on a true story and promises a thrilling journey.

‘Chehre’ (UAE cinemas): Going by the trailer, this thriller comes with lots of twists and turns. It’s about an 80-year-old lawyer (Amitabh Bachchan) who enjoys playing real-life games with his friends. Emraan Hashmi plays a business tycoon who gets tangled up in their mock trial.

‘Post Mortem: No One Dies in Skarnes’ (Netflix): Hours after Live Hallangen is declared dead, she wakes up on the forensic table with an insatiable hunger. Live, whose family runs a funeral home in Skarnes, Norway, has to figure out a way to control her new nature in a town with a low death rate.

‘Atonement’ (Amazon Prime Video): Shed a few tears this weekend with this romance that is as beautiful as it is tragic. Based on Ian McEwan’s novel, the movie is about teenager Briony Tallis who makes up a lie about her older sister’s lover and inevitably changes the course of many lives.

‘The Wilds’ (Amazon Prime Video): Teenage girls from various backgrounds are travelling to a young women’s empowerment retreat when the plane they’re on crashes into the ocean. The girls find themselves stranded on a remote island without realising they are part of a social experiment.

‘Heels’ (Starzplay): Two rival brothers, one a ring heel and the other a hero, grapple over their late father’s wrestling promotion business while vying for attention in a small town in Georgia.

‘The Protégé’ (UAE cinemas): Anna (Maggie Q) was rescued as a child by legendary assassin Moody (Samuel L. Jackson), and ends up becoming the world’s most skilled contract killer. However, when Moody is killed, Anna vows to take revenge.

‘Candyman’ (UAE cinemas): A new horror reboot comes to town. It takes place a decade after the events of the original ‘Candyman’ movie, and sees characters Anthony (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his partner Brianna (Teyonah Parris) move into a loft in the now gentrified Cabrini. After a chance encounter, Anthony becomes obsessed with the legend of Candyman.

‘The Night House’ (UAE cinemas): After the unexpected death of her husband, Beth (Rebecca Hall) is left alone in the lakeside home he built for her. Soon she begins having dark dreams and disturbing visions, and secrets about her husband begin to unravel.
