Dubai: Tyler Perry, the American actor, filmmaker, and playwright is back with a film that you should watch immediately, if you haven’t already.

Perry, who is known for several of his films, especially the Madea film series, finally directed a movie that critics said was “one of the most compelling films Perry has ever made,” according to Rotten Tomatoes. Despite having mixed reviews for the film.

Straw starring Oscar-nominated Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor and more, premiered on Netflix on June 6.

The film also stars Rockmond Dunbar, Sinbad, Glynn Turnman, Ashley Versher, Mike Merrill, and Gabrielle E. Jackson.

The story follows Janiyah Wiltkinson (Henson), a single mother struggling to make ends meet as she works two jobs and pays the bills of her unwell daughter, Aria (Jackson). However, this particular day everything that could possibly go wrong in Janiyah’s life, does -- making it difficult for her to think straight.

These unfortunate events lead her down a path and she ends up finding herself in the worst possible situation – one she cannot get out of without help. Henson’s Janiyah, Shepherd’s Nicole and Taylor’s Kay Raymond stand out with their performances in this film, making it a must-watch.

Perry directs the film in a way to show the audience that there are several moments that could’ve been Janiyah’s last Straw, making her snap. But the unexpected twists and turns, especially towards the end of the film, are what make it worth the watch.

In an interview with Decider, Henson said, “Reading the script, I was blown away. But then it made sense, in her actions. Because what it showed me was that she (Janiyah)… was on automatic. She wasn’t even in her body, to be quite honest. I just played the honesty for her living the life as if nothing happened.”

Make sure to watch this emotionally harrowing film on Netflix.
