Cannes: Best-selling author Sir Terry Pratchett and actor Charles Dance have helped launch Going Postal, an television series based on the Pratchett novel from his DiscWorld series.

Dance told Gulf News at the MIPTV content market that he was honoured to be in the series and had to be on his toes as fans of the series played extras.

Fans expected very high standards for those representing their favourite characters, he added, but was pleased to get their seal of approval.

Dance plays Lord Vetinari, who gives the key character Moist (played by Richard Coyle) the job of reviving the Post Office in the fantasy world of Ankh-Mprpork.

Pratchett too said he was delighted with the show. He had sat in as a consultant - and won his way on changing back some elements of the production to better reflect the book.

In his trademark black clothes and fedora, he regaled the press with many anecdotes, only occasional stopping to test his memory - as he has public talked about his battle with Alzheimer's.
