Dubai: South Korean model and actor Kim Jong-seok’s sister issued a statement regarding his death recently. Jong-seok died on June 4 at the age of 29.

Speculations and rumours regarding his death began circulating online and in the media. Some stated he chose to end his life after an argument his ex-girlfriend. Others state he was on the run from the police who were called after his argument with his ex-girlfriend, leading him to jumping off the roof of a building.

Amid these rising speculations, his sister made another post on social media, addressing it. Jong-seok’s sister denied all the rumours saying, “The claims that he barged into his girlfriend’s home drunk, caused a disturbance with a soju bottle, and jumped when the police arrived are not true.”

She went on to share that Jong-seok was suffering financially, after falling victim to a investment scam. “He was under extreme financial and emotional distress due to an investment scam committed by an acquaintance. Not only did he lose his entire fortune, but he also fell into debt from the fraud, making daily life difficult. He was exhausted from these circumstances and had been deep in thought for some time,” she added.

Jong-seok’s sister then went on to clarify that the rumour regarding his alleged abuse towards his ex-girlfriend was untrue. She explained in detail that Jong-seok and his girlfriend were indeed drinking, but separately, with their own acquaintances.

“When he couldn’t reach her, he became worried and went to her home with a friend. His girlfriend, her sister, and her sister’s boyfriend were asleep, while Jong-seok along with a friend and a male acquaintance were awake, chatting and even joked around. Later, when his girlfriend woke up, there was no assault or rampage – just a simple argument between the couple,” the statement said.

“As others tried to intervene and tensions seemed to rise, Jong-seok’s friend broke a soju bottle in an attempt to atop the argument, which led to the police being called. The claims that he ran away or tried to avoid the police are also untrue,” she added.

Jong-seok’s sister then mentioned that she will release the summary of the police recordings and statements from the friend who was with him at that time, and also recordings that were taken at the police station.

The cause of his death, however, is still unknown.
