No hurt feelings

Noted film director Brillante Mendoza isn’t harbouring any ill feelings toward the organisers of the Metro Manila Film Festival for not accepting his film, Thy Womb, as one of the entries in this year’ edition. After all, his movie has been accepted into the main competition of the much bigger, more prestigious 69th Venice International Film Festival.

The movie stars legendary actress Nora Aunor, whose 1982 classic film, Himala, which has been digitally remastered will also be screened at the same festival to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Mendoza also says Thy Womb, has been accepted into another important festival and he will make the announcement shortly.

Biggest break

Young actor-singer Sam Concepcion is ecstatic about his biggest movie break yet. The promising teen stars in a musical film starring Ogie Alcasid, Eugene Domingo and Zsa Zsa Padilla.

The movie, titled I Do Bidoo Bidoo: Heto nAPO Sila, celebrates the music and artistry of Apo Hiking Society, one of the most successful singing groups in the Philippines. Concepcion was initially hesitant about accepting a role in the film, thinking of the heavyweight cast; but accepted the challenge later on and realised this could be his time to shine. Silent war

Looks like there is a brewing fight between top comedians Vice Ganda and John Lapus. The two are apparently fighting over the flimsiest of reasons: who is the BFF of actress-TV host Kris Aquino?

Lapus is said to be miffed that Aquino is spending so much time with Ganda lately; but sources close to the actress say Lapus is safe and secure as the real BFF as he is the favourite of the Aquino’s two sons, Joshua and Baby James. It’s odd that Lapus and Gandaare letting their closeness to Aquino get the better of their friendship. Is it worth it?

 Time to shine

Newbie Benjamin Alves felt having Piolo Pascual as an uncle was more of a liability than an advantage when he entered showbusiness. So he knew he had his work cut out for himself. But since the promising upstart really has talent in his blood, it wasn’t too long before he was noticed. True enough, Regal Films gave him a leadrole in Guni Guni, opposite hot young star Lovi Poe. Thankful for his big break, Alves says he’ll work hard to prove he deserves his place in the local entertainment industry.
