Prithviraj's film L2: Empuraan was the first film in Kerala this year to see such success
Mohanlal’s latest Malayalam-language thriller Thudarum is on a dream run.
The slow-burn actioner has officially entered the coveted Rs1 billion club globally on day 6, becoming the second Malayalam film in 2025 to achieve the milestone after L2: Empuraan.
While Empuraan reached the mark in just two days, Thudarum reportedly holds the title of being the second fastest Malayalam film to do so this year.
This also marks Mohanlal’s fourth film to cross Rs1 billion globally, following the success of Pulimurugan, Lucifer, and L2: Empuraan.
The film’s success is a testament to the superstar’s enduring draw across borders.
In my review of Thudarum, I noted how this isn't a high-octane spectacle but a simmering, emotionally anchored thriller.
With Mohanlal in traditional mundu and delivering a performance brimming with pathos, and villains played chillingly by Prakash Varma and Binu Pappu, Thudarum is exactly the kind of nuanced Malayalam cinema we’ve been waiting for.
It’s clear: when Mohanlal is at his restrained best, the box office follows.
