Dubai: Thudarum, the 2025 Malayalam crime thriller starring Mohanlal, has achieved a major box office milestone by entering the coveted Rs2 billion club (Rs200 crore) worldwide.

With this feat, it becomes only the third Malayalam film in history to gross over Rs2billion globally, following the success of Manjummel Boys (2024) and L2: Empuraan (2025).

Released on April 25, 2025, Thudarum is directed by Tharun Moorthy and features an ensemble cast including Shobana, Prakash Varma, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew, and Krishna Prabha.

Mohanlal reacts to Rs2 billion milestone:

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mohanlal shared his appreciation:

“Rs2,000 million! Some journeys don't need noise, just hearts to carry them forward. Thudarum has found its place in millions of hearts across the world, breaking all the box office records in Kerala. Gratitude for all the love.”

Fans celebrate Mohanlal’s historic double succes:

Fans and followers praised Mohanlal for delivering two consecutive Rs 2 billion hits, with L2: Empuraan having released just a month earlier on March 27, 2025. One fan wrote:

“The first South Indian actor to have two Rs2billion films in a single month. This is historic.”

Another added:

“Smallest industry, limited screens, and still Rs2 billion twice. Mohanlal’s stardom is unmatched. Drishyam 3 Malayalam must release across India first!”

Director Tharun Moorthy’s rise continues

Thudarum adds another success to Tharun Moorthy’s impressive filmography. After debuting with Operation Java (2021), he followed up with Saudi Vellakka (2022), which won the National Award for Best Malayalam Feature Film.

With Thudarum, Malayalam cinema once again proves that powerful storytelling and star-led appeal can thrive globally—even with modest screen counts.
