In a revelation that has thrilled fans, director Lokesh Kanagaraj has disclosed that Superstar Rajinikanth has been diligently working on his autobiography — even while shooting for their upcoming film Coolie.

The much-anticipated action entertainer, featuring a stellar ensemble cast, is scheduled for worldwide release on 14 August.

‘He wrote every single day’

In a recent video interview with a media outlet, Kanagaraj shared that Rajinikanth was immersed in writing during the last two schedules of Coolie.

“In the last two schedules, sir was busy writing his autobiography. He used to write every day,” the director said.

Kanagaraj also spoke of his regular conversations with the iconic actor during filming.

“Every day I would ask him, ‘Which episode are you on? Which phase are you writing about?’ He would then tell me what happened during his 42nd year or at some other stage of life,” the director recounted.

A deeply personal experience

The filmmaker described the experience of hearing Rajinikanth’s untold stories as profoundly moving.

“What makes it special is that sir shared things with me he hadn’t revealed to anyone else. That experience is something I’ll always cherish. The one thing that connects everyone in Tamil Nadu to him is the number of challenges he has overcome,” Kanagaraj said.

Coolie set for global impact

Coolie has already made headlines by securing the highest overseas rights deal for a Tamil film. Industry buzz suggests the film may release in over 100 countries, making it one of the widest international releases for an Indian film.

Alongside Rajinikanth, the star-studded cast includes Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir and Shruti Haasan. Music is by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and editing by Philomin Raj.
