What is today’s generation’s approach to love and relationships? Tamil film Kavalai Vendam (Don’t Worry) explores this premise.

This is director Deekay’s second film, after his debut with Yaamiruka Bayamey, a successful horror comedy.

Kavalai Vendam has Jiiva in the lead as Arvind, a chef. Kajal Aggarwal is Divya, a corporate employee. Divya represents today’s woman, a bold and independent-minded individual.

“Arvind and Divya are childhood sweethearts who take their relationship to the next level. How their relationship works is told with humour,” reveals Deekay who has written the script.

“I have borrowed instances from my life and that of people around me. Viewers will connect with the situations.”

Kannada actress Shruthi Ramakrishnan who plays Divya’s friend Shilpa, says it’s her first time doing a glam role. Slipping into Shilpa’s skin took her some time.

“Initially I was apprehensive about playing Shilpa, but I took it up as a challenge and with Deekay’s encouragement, I trained my mind to think like Shilpa. My body soon followed suit.”

Ramakrishnan adds that Shilpa taught her a lot, making her a more confident actor.

The supporting cast includes Sunaina in a significant role. She plays Deepa, a soft-spoken and mature young woman in love with Arvind. Bobby Simha, of Jigarthanda fame, plays a self-made businessman.

“Bobby’s role is important role and a character marked with subtlety,” adds Deekay.

Comedian Mayilsamy will be seen as Arvind’s dad. “He is a fun dad, more a friend than a father figure and his role is on par with that of Jiiva’s,” says Deekay.

Leon James has composed music for the film. The album of four songs, has Armaan Malik rendering one of the songs, Un Kadhal Irundha Podhum, with Shaasha Tirupati.

Inno Genga and Andrea have sung a club song, En Pulse Yethitu Poraye.

Another version of Un Kadhal Irundha Podhum is sung by Vandana Srinivasan. Sid Sriram, known for his high octave singing, has sung Ne Tholaindhaayo.

Abhinanthan is the cinematographer.

Kavalai Vendam, a story about first love and second chances, is produced by RS Infotainment and releases in UAE on November 24.
